Common scope change scenarios

Adding a new page or section: Often looks small but adds design, content, and testing time. Estimate at least 6 to 12 hours for a single content page on an existing site.
Expanding a writing deliverable: A blog post becoming a 5-post series multiplies research, drafting, and revision time. Do not assume it scales linearly.
Adding a new platform or channel: Social media content for a new platform means new formats, new dimensions, and new approval cycles. Budget 20 to 30% more than the original platform.

Mistakes to avoid

Not counting revision rounds. Scope changes almost always trigger extra feedback. Add a 10 to 20% buffer.
Forgetting communication time. Explaining the change, updating the agreement, and walking the client through the new plan all take time.
Absorbing the cost to keep the client happy. If the change adds 15 hours of work, your original rate already accounts for your availability. Absorbing it means you work for free.
Agreeing before estimating. Even a quick estimate gives you a defensible number. Saying yes without a number sets the expectation that future changes are free.
